“Toon In” for the Live Interview with Michael Payne

Join us on Thursday, 19 August, at 10am CEST, for the LIVE interview with Michael Payne, the former IOC Marketing Director and one of the most influential marketeers in the world.

Michael is launching his second book, Toon In!, which is a compilation of cartoons from around the globe telling the history of the Olympic Games.

The book runs to over 500 pages, includes some 1,200 drawings and was over a year in the making – we talked about that the first time he was on the show, a year ago.  The work of some 360 cartoonists from 47 nations is included in the volume which has been produced in a ‘coffee table’ format.

At an interview to the International Society of Olympic Historians, Michael said “Cartoons are a very important part of the social commentary of the day and I really wanted to make the book as global as possible.”

He has written an accompanying text of 100,000 words and paid tribute to the “creative brilliance of cartoonists” in a volume which he describes as “edgy.”

At the interview, we will talk about the making of the book, of how cartoons can deliver a very powerful message in its unique way of recording history, as well as about his impressions of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where he has just returned from.
