Interview with Tim Palmer, Senior Vice President, Global Recruitment at Endeavor

Endeavor has been named one of the Top 5 Most Attractive Employers in Sport, in the category Sports Marketing Agencies, in a study recently published by iWorkinSport. The interview with Tim Palmer, Senior Vice President, Global Recruitment at the company, was one of many interviews with top level recruiters featured in the report.

The study surveyed more than 1,000 people from all continents, with the majority already working in sport, and asked them a simple question: “If you could choose to work anywhere in sport, where would that be?”

Initially, the respondents chose organisations divided into nine categories, and at the end, they indicated one single preferred choice, overall – the “Employer of their Dreams”.

The publication features rankings of the most attractive employers in sport divided in the following categories:  Football Clubs, Sports Teams (other than Football), Sports Teams in the USA, Sports Leagues, Sports Governing Bodies, Event Organisers, Sports Marketing Agencies, Sponsors, and Sporting Goods Companies.

Additionally, the report presents the aspects that candidates rate as most important when deciding where they would like to work.

Why do so many people wish to work at IMG and what makes IMG a great employer?
IMG's founder Mark McCormack is widely-regarded as the man who invented the “sports marketing” industry back in the sixties, therefore we have an extremely rich heritage across sports events, media sales and distribution and broadcast production, which has seen us partner over the years with so many of the world’s iconic athletes, leagues, federations, clubs and teams.

We are also part of the wider Endeavor network, comprising entertainment agency WME, premier mixed martial arts organization UFC, as well as other brands such as On Location, 160over90 and Endeavor Streaming – all key players in the sports industry.  This makes us an attractive employer for anyone who is interested in Sports & Entertainment and offers plenty of career prospects across the wider Endeavor platform.

What were the changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic?
Like so many businesses in the sports space, we’ve had our challenges over the last 12 months, but there is a definitely light at the end of the tunnel and we are seeing our business coming back strongly, especially as the sports industry evolves and in particular in key areas such as digital and technology.

What advice would you give to someone who dreams about working at IMG?
As mentioned, we have many opportunities at IMG (and Endeavor) across many sectors, from Commercial to Tech, Marketing to Finance or Legal to Digital.  We believe in collaboration, excellence in what we do, entrepreneurialism and, most importantly, diversity and inclusion.  If that sounds like you and you have a passion for sports and entertainment and want to work in an organization at the very heart of it, then this is the place to be!
